Giguere a no-go at Phoenix

Back spasms will keep goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere out of a second consecutive game Saturday night, when the Ducks face the Phoenix Coyotes in Glendale, Ariz.

Giguere experienced problems before Friday night’s 2-1, road loss to the San Jose Sharks, and could not have played under any circumstances, Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. Rookie Jonas Hiller, who is expected to start against the Coyotes, registered a career-high 41 saves against the Sharks.

Giguere reported significant improvement Saturday and is holding out hope of being able to play Wednesday night against the Kings at Honda Center, a team spokesman said.

With Giguere unavailable Saturday, the Ducks recalled goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin from American League affiliate Portland, Maine. Aubin is 4-2 with a 1.8 goals-against average, .934 save percentage and two shutouts with the Pirates since having been acquired by the Ducks in a Feb. 26 trade that sent a seventh-round selection in this year’s NHL entry draft to the Kings.

Aubin, 30, has appeared in 218 career NHL games with the Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs, going 80-83-11-7 with 2.93 and .900 numbers. He was 5-6 with 3.19 and .886 figures in 19 games with the Kings this season.

Aubin is the only player ever traded between the Ducks and Kings.
