Bertuzzi bemoans ice time with Ducks

August 27th, 2008, 7:00 am · 7 Comments · posted by Curtis Zupke, Staff writer

bertuzzi3.jpgFormer Duck Todd Bertuzzi is apparently glad to be back in Canada, judging by his first official news conference Tuesday as a Calgary Flame.

Bertuzzi, 33, is trying to resurrect his career after a disappointing stint with the Ducks last season.

The power forward never found a groove with the club, and Bertuzzi (right) said he knows why.

“In Anaheim I thought it was going to be a good opportunity but I just didn’t fit into the mode there with ice time - playing 10 to 12 minutes a game, it’s kind of hard to perform,” he told reporters.

For the record, Bertuzzi averaged 16:27 of ice time last season. His season was set back by a concussion and recurring symptoms. He finished with 14 goals and 26 assists in 68 games and had two assists in a first round loss to Dallas in the playoffs.

The Ducks had signed Bertuzzi to a two-year, $8 million deal, mainly as a replacement for Teemu Selanne. They bought out the contract in June.

Bertuzzi still faces legal ramifications for his attack on Steve Moore. He and the Vancouver Canucks are defendants in a $38 million lawsuit filed by Moore and his family for the 2004 incident.

Check this guy out, complaining about ice time. If he would of tried harder he might of earned more ice time. Ever since the attack, Bertuzzi has never been the same player. He needs to retire and worry about the court case then ice time.

Will this idiot ever take responsibility of his own life? He’s always putting the blame on someone else.

He had one streak where he was dominant for about 2-3 weeks and then disappeared after that. I think Bertuzzi probably scored half of his points during that time. He probably should have actually only had 10-12 minutes of ice time - already more than he deserved. Carlye gave him the opportunity to perform and he never did. What a cry baby…

This is uncalled for, especially after the favor Burke pulled for him by signing him at 4 mil a year, then waving him so he could earn another 1.3 mil for doing nothing. Furthermore he would never even kill penalties.

The thing that really ticks me off is that the ducks are a team that usually signs players based off their character rather than their stats. With guys like Weight and Burtuzzi on the team it didn’t surprise me one bit when dallas walked all over us in the first round.

Quite Frankly if the players we got from not matching the Penner offer sheet don’t work out, Signing players like Burtuzzi and Sutherby will go down as some of the worst signings in Ducks history.

He’s lucky he got ANY ice time, should have been kicked out of the league!

  • [...] had 43 goals last season, but no one noticed.Northwest Division -New Flames forward Todd Bertuzzi complained about the lack of ice time he got with the Ducks last season. Apparently the Ducks have this crazy idea that overrated, lazy, broken down, pieces of trash [...]

  • Sunny says:

Yes, but how did he feel about Brad May’s ice time???? (if you’ll recall, after being traded to Florida he complained about May’s lack of ice time in Vancouver)
