Sean Avery should be a Duck

December 3rd, 2008, 11:11 am · 9 Comments · posted by Al Balderas, staff writer

Well, he did it again.

Sean Avery stuck his skated foot in his mouth one more time.

His derogatory remarks about former girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert (who seems to be to the NHL what Alyssa Milano is to Major League Baseball) and her latest NHL boyfriend landed him a suspension and perhaps a one-way ticket out of Dallas.

His next stop? Maybe it should be Anaheim.

As much as Orange County residents try to distance themselves from the cesspool that is Los Angeles, they’re knee-deep in it.

Why does MTV come to Orange County when it has an idea for a show about out-of-control, sex-starved teens?

With Beverly Hills within the shadow of Hollywood, why do camera crews come to Orange County to film the Real (phony) Housewives?

Face it, Orange County. Whether you like it or not, whether you’ll admit it or not, you’re all about the attention. And there are very few hockey players who can deliver that like Avery can.

He’s hated. He’s the bad boy of hockey. He interprets the rules a little differently than most other, OK probably all other, NHLers. Heck, he even got the NHL to implement a rule change during the middle of last year’s playoffs.

But he’s a competitor. He protects his teammates. He gets into opponents’ heads.

When Avery was with the Kings a few years back, management decided that it would be best if his locker was placed between those of veterans Rob Blake and Mattias Norstrom.

All the Ducks have to do is stick him between…oh, let’s say Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer. They’ll do a good job at keeping an eye on him.

It’s time the Ducks were known for something other than clean-cut, wholesome players like Teemu Selanne, Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and, in Avery’s words from a few years ago, eff-ing Chris Kunitz.

You know you want it Anaheim. Now is the time to step out from behind your white picket fences and admit it.

get real! Avery should just “go away.” He’s not good for hockey.

  • Stan says:

Wow, what are you smoking?!?! The Ducks are a hard working, physical team with a lot of character. They cross the line sometimes, but this has absolutely nothing to do with Sean Avery and his mouth. Ducks do not trash talk about other players and their personal lives. Avery is a cancer. He has ruined more teams then helped.

  • Nick says:

I’m sure Hazy would love to see him in a Ducks uniform. The guy is a douche.

  • TiCKed says:

    “He protects his teammates.”

Ahhh…No. More often, he either ticks off his teammates, or forces them to protect him.

No self respecting GM would lay a hand on the clown. And those who have, have been smart enough to let him walk away once they got the chance.

Al, do you get paid by the click-through rate on your posts? Are you just tagging on to a hot topic to spark some interest?

You honestly cant be serious, can you?

As a die-hard, loyal Duck fan since the beginning, There is only one thing in this world that can get me to stop being a Duck fan… and that would be if they EVER sign Sean Avery.

Bertuzzi I could handle, Disney firing Ron Wilson days after their first ever playoff run I could handle, the Hiring of Pierre Page I could handle, years of being made fun of for being a Duck fan I could handle, years of watching this team squander talent in the form of Selanne and Kariya I could handle, dancing disney cartoons on ice, iceman and flaming wild wings I could handle…. signing Sean Avery I could not.

I would stop being a Duck fan until they got rid of him.

Avery is all mouth and not bite. He trash talks to goad an opponent then turns and tries to get away if the opponent challenges him. His teammates have to step in when he instigates a confrontation. Avery’s a punk. Just who is this Balderas guy? I got here from a link and don’t recall seeing Balderas’ name on Ducks articles. And, where is Anaheim are the white picket fences. Mostly, there’s black wrought iron on the doors and windows with chain links around the yards. Take a drive Baleras. It’s not much different than Santa Ana except for the Disney-owned and maintained property which supports the whole damn city. Without Disney, there would be no reason to go to Anaheim and there would be no Pond or home for Moreno’s LA Angels.

  • DekstorFisher says:

“Sean Avery should be a Duck” …..and Rob Niedermayer with Todd Marchant should be the Kings.

  • Walt Webb says:

It is too bad he is an idiot because he can play pretty well when he puts his mind to it. I am sure Dallas would be more than willing to trade him to the Ducks.
