After dropping a 6-3 decision to the Kings in the teams’ first meeting this season, Oct. 14 at Staples Center, the Ducks scored back-to-back shutout victories. G Jean-Sebastien Giguere registered 35 saves in a 1-0, overtime decision Nov. 4 at Staples, and G Jonas Hiller recorded 29 saves for his first career shutout in a 2-0 triumph Nov. 16 at Honda Center, giving the Ducks a shutout streak of 121 minutes, 52 seconds in the Southern California rivalry. … The Kings posted just their third victory in nine games Saturday, a 2-1, shootout decision over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers, one night after the Ducks had fallen to the Flyers, 5-4 in a shootout. … Kings rookie G Jonathan Quick has provided a lift since being summoned from the Manchester Monarchs of the American League in mid-December, going 3-3 with a 1.59 goals-against average, .943 save percentage and two shutouts. … The Kings have also benefited from a strong bounce-back campaign from third-line C Michal Handzus, who struggled last season after having undergone surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament but has seven goals and 17 points in 38 games. … C Anze Kopitar is the top Kings scorer with 29 points, including 10 goals.
