The Ducks are faced with the predicament of giving goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere playing time to improve without taking away deserving starts to Jonas Hiller.
Giguere was pulled in his last start after he allowed two weak goals. He had given up four goals in three of his previous four starts.
“He’s a veteran guy,” Coach Randy Carlyle said.” He’s been through a lot of wars, so I have no qualms in thinking that there’s not something wrong. There’s not something wrong. There’s things he has to work on in practice. He’s a guy that relishes the technical part of the game. Working with (goaltending consultant) Francois Allaire brings him back into line. That’s been his history and that’s what we’ll stay with.”
Said Carlyle of Giguere and Hiller, “I think the goaltending is reflection of our hockey club in a lot of ways. We’ve had some good games. We’ve had some not-so-good games. We’ve had some poor games. I think that holds true for our goaltenders. We cannot place the blame solely in their corner … they’re the last line of defense and they’re very open to criticism, but the bottom line is we have to get better in front of them.”
