Pronger rumors false

June 12th, 2009, 2:18 pm · 26 Comments · posted by Curtis Zupke, Staff writer

The Ducks moved quickly this afternoon to deny Internet rumors about trading defenseman Chris Pronger to the Kings.

“Completely false,” team spokesman Alex Gilchrist said.

Kings general manager Dean Lombardi and team spokesman Jeff Moeller also reportedly denied the deal.

The rumor mill spread quickly with reports that the Ducks would send Pronger to the Kings for defenseman Jack Johnson and a No.5 draft pick.

Teams cannot make trades untilĀ the Stanley Cup FinalsĀ are over.

unless we can get either second or third I say we keep him. his ability to pass, and get pucks through is too good. His ability to put the hurt on people isn’t bad either.

  • Chaz says:

False in the sense that it’s not happening until the Finals are over? It’d be weird to do this deal unless Murray knew for sure that Niedermayer was coming back. Why lose both of your top two defensemen?

  • backcheck says:

C’mon guys, this trade fails the laugh test. The pick is a crap shoot. For every gem there’s a huge disappointment.

Do you really think Bob Murray is going to trade a Norris Trophy winning, 82 game playing with over 25 minutes ATOI for an oft injured, underachieving, difficult to sign sophomore and a pick?

  • backcheck says:

My guess is Daddy “Hollywood Mom” Johnson started this bunk in an attempt to hype Johnson’s value.

  • backcheck says:

You want to start a serious rumor. Try something like this:

To Toronto: Pronger & our 15th.

To Anaheim: Kubina, Kulemin & Leafs #7 pick overall.

IF we trade #25, look for a quality roster player, top prospect and a high pick coming back to Anaheim.

HA HA Knows Howe, Schlonger and Rallph,’
classic game 7 loss at home will be remembered forever!

  • wildwingfan says:

Humble pie, Pittsburgh style… served nice and hot in HockeyTown! LOVE IT!

    Enjoy summer Schlonger!

  • Wing(These)Nuts says:

    Thank you Pittsburgh (Kunitz)!

I loved the reaction of the Detroit fans when the final shot was blocked by Fleury…priceless.

And what about Hossa….he could have had a $50 mil contract with the Pens and the Cup…what a weenie.

  • Realist says:

Sounds like a complete BS rumor to me. That said if it happens would be the greatest thing that could ever happen to Ducks. Pronger only has 1 year left before he walks as a UFA, Neidermayer may or may not come back, and Beauchemein is a UFA as well. Thats 3 of the top 6 dmen who will be gone within the year.

Pronger is washed up anyhow, his foot speed has slowed to a crawl and while he makes up for it by smart positioning I noticed on more then a couple of occasions times when opposing forwards were able to get by him. A trade like this would help restock a D Corp that in 2 years id going to be looking pretty sad with Ryan Whitney as the Ducks top Dman.

And I will concur with others…..Hats off the Pens! Dan Bylsma’s name on the Cup is an amazing thought to a hard working guy both as coach and player.

  • John says:

Cheers to the Penguins! Good old North American grit and tenacity won the Cup.

  • GARY says:

I LOVE HOW DUCK FANS THINK THEY WOULD GET THE SHORT END OF THIS DEAL. TRADING A 34 YEAR OLD D-MAN WITH ONLY A COUPLE YEARS LEFT FOR AN UP AND COMING D-MAN PLUS THE NUMBER 5 PICK OVERALL WOULD BE A NO BRAINER . DUCK FAN EQUALS NO HOCKEY SENSE.

    • ClippinWings says:

I’m a ducks fan and agree with you whole heartedly… but I’m a realist.

  • backcheck says:

Too bad they don’t have a report abuse function.

  • wildwingfan says:

We’ve watched game 7 at Hockey Town three times now and we still love the Red Wings loss in their house.

I have nothing against most of the players and Babcock. The reason for enjoying this savory loss is due to the loud mouthed know it all elitists Red Wings fans. To them I say, BFD!

We love our team in Anaheim and if you don’t, stuff it. And seeing your team lose and tank much like the Sharks is extra sweet because 99% of Red Wings fans are A-holes, plain and simple. Some goes to San Jose. That’s the price to pay boys and girls for over inflated egos based on nothing but rooting for a team…

    Red Wings fans, cram it!

  • ClippinWings says:

OK, seriously… How old is Rallph?

    I guess 12.

There is now way his parents would let him use their computer if they knew what a fool he makes of himself online.

Rallph… in case you didn’t know, it’s fans like you that make us all hate wings fans.

I’m using my kid’s posting to A) not allow him to post BS anymore AND to say the following:

    Readers of this blog:

I strongly encourage you to contact the staff at the OC Register to address abuse on the Anaheim Ducks blog by certain repeat offenders!

Excessive postings intended to disrupt the subject, those that use inappropriate language, result in taunting and insults should not be allowed by the OC Register staff, nor should it be tolerated by its users.

While I do welcome all points of view, frequent posters who behave inappropriately should be flagged and their comments removed in order to preserve the integrity of this blog. Not doing so diminishes its usefulness and discourages those who would be willing contribute productively to what is an otherwise fine section of the OC Register.

Instituting and upholding reasonable guidelines is not beyond the technology available at the OC Register. Methods used by other websites should be employed in order to prevent this from becoming a playground for a few immature individuals. Unfortunately this behavior has been allowed by the OC Register and I hope that they would support the majority of those who are able to follow a basic level of respect towards the subject and other users.

Let’s take this blog back; thank you for your time.

  • ClippinWings says:

OK great, now i look like i’m talking to myself…

Well at least he is gone… though a “User comment removed” note would have been nice. :)

  • MIke Hawk says:

    This is Schlonger!
Admit it (cup) loser (at home in game 7)

  • MIke Hawk says:

At least he did not have to change his name Schlonger
Admit it (cup) loser (at home in game 7)

  • ClippinWings says:

    Yup, he’s washed up… just like Lidstrom…

Time to Rebuild in (we hate) Hockey (So much we have hundreds of empty seats for SCF Game 7) Town.

  • MIke Hawk says:

We know we’ll make the playoffs next year because you said we wont
Rallph-Schlonger, and you are walking talking disaster idiot.
Wh don’tt you run to your mommy like Lidstrom did after losing the cup,
they got to clebrate many times and others had to wait but they did not have the class to reciprocate.
Truly sore losers with no class just like you and many of their fans!
    You kooks!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ClippinWings says:

    Wait… I have to ask…

    Who the %^&* is “Barney”

    and who is “Beachball”

I get Graybeard… ha ha, so funny… you do realize he is younger than like 6 of the wings right?

  • ClippinWings says:

    Who’s the sore loser?

The guy who is reading and commenting on news on a local newspapers Blog dedicated to his team…

Or the guy who comes to beat up on the fans of another team (that the wings barely got past) because he wants to ignore the reality of the 2009 Stanley Cup Champion Penguins (who they didn’t)

  • MIke Hawk says:

Because they beat the wings so many times!
    Why’d you drop Schlonger?
    Coward!
