Unrestricted free-agent defenseman Francois Beauchemin appears headed for a destination other than Anaheim, while checking-line center Todd Marchant and right wing Rob Niedermayer might very well be, too.
Ducks general manager Bob Murray, speaking to Southern California media on a conference call Wednesday after the team announced the re-signing of unrestricted free-agent defenseman Scott Niedermayer to a one-year, $6 million contract, said he had heard that Beauchemin was entertaining offers in the range of $4 million to $5 million per season.
“I expect he’s going to get a big number, and that’s the way it’s going to go,” Murray said. “It’s way out of my range.”
Marchant, meanwhile, rejected a contract offer made by the Ducks last week, and the team has had no conversations regarding Rob Niedermayer with his Vancouver-based agent, Kevin Epp.
The Ducks “might” re-visit the Marchant negotiations, Murray said.
Contract talks are “ongoing” with restricted free-agent defenseman James Wisniewski, Murray said.
Despite tons of money being thrown around by NHL teams Wednesday, the Ducks planned to maintain a patient approach.
“I’m talking to a few people about a couple of interesting things,” Murray said.

Excellent player but it the money isn’t there… let some other team gobble up their salary cap. Seeing a lot of interesting, almost desperate trades from some of the clubs today. Good to see Murray being cautious and realistic.
Any more rumors of Jiggy following Burke?
Hey Best Buddy,
Burke went to europe to talk to Gustavson as plan A Jiggy may be plan B.

not sure if OC internet can pick that up, LOL!!
That won’t be resolved until the idiot swedish goaltender decides on a team.
Keep Machant…he is a warrior….
I love Beauchy but he’s not worth 5 mil a season. Good for him though if he gets an offer that can’t be passed up on. Signing Wisniewski becomes key for us now. And picking up a shut down center if we can’t sign Marchant.
It think it is paramount the Ducks re-sign Rob Niedermayer. He IS the NHL’s top defensive winger and has been for years. He has never gotten the hype as others but for the money he is worth it.
Marchant and Wis are two, key, must-signs….Rob was coasting too much last season…making bad passes, and getting caught sleeping.
