Marchant OK, other practice notes

October 13th, 2009, 1:04 pm · 6 Comments · posted by Curtis Zupke, Staff writer

Some quick hits from Tuesday’s practice …

Winger Todd Marchant was back on the ice and said he is OK after he left Sunday’s game after being pushed into the end boards.

The veteran said he has soreness on his left side but is otherwise ready to go.

“I felt like my entire body was somewhere else,” Marchant said. “But I felt pretty good today.”

Marchant was going after the puck when New York Rangers’ defenseman Dan Girardi sent him violently crashing into the boards. Marchant watched the replay this morning.

“I put myself in a bad position,” he said. “I was just trying to go to the net and I got turned and went into the boards.”

Overall, the Ducks turned their attention to shoring up their penalty killing and getting off to a better start. They must do so without James Wisniewski, a key penalty killer and top-four defender.

“It’s not an easy task,” Coach Randy Carlyle said. “We’ve got some youth in (Brendan) Mikkelson and (Luca) Sbisa, and (Ryan) Whitney and (Steve) Eminger, (Nick) Boynton and (Sheldon) Brookbank - I think those are the guys that are going to have to bear more responsibility.” …

The line rushes were back to normal, with five players wearing the third-line orange jerseys in practice:

Bobby Ryan-Ryan Getzlaf-Corey Perry

Joffrey Lupul-Saku Koivu-Teemu Selanne

Erik Christensen-Evgeny Artyukhin-Todd Marchant-Petteri Nokelainen-Andrew Ebbett

Ryan Carter-George Parros-Mike Brown

I like pairing of Carter- Parros- Brown

It makes Carter become more gritty but still provides a good scoring punch with Brown on the wing for him.

So glad to hear Todd is okay…that looked so scary. I thought for sure it looked like a shoulder or side injury. He is a tough guy. Thanks for the update.

    Go Ducks…beat the Wild

I’m with you on Todd. I feel very relieved to know he is ok, because he is way too important to this team. He definitely was one of the best players on the ice against the Rangers.

So far when Nick Boynton doesn’t play, I believe the Ducks are 0-2 now, which is the total number of regulation losses the Ducks have.

I still think the team is putting all of its ducks in one basket with the current offensive lines. Keep Getz-Perry together with maybe Carter or Eric C. Have Ebbett-Selanne-Koivu. Ryan has shown he can score or at least be a constant threat with any line so use him as such. I’m not impressed with Petteri N so why are they still trying to squeeze him in…same goes for Eric C? Spread out the scoring and ruin the opponent’s match-ups that they want

The quick fix for the PK unit is better netminding and fewer stupid penalties. One stupid penalty is too many.

The only legitimate penalty is one that thwarts a scoring opportunity, one that results in taking a better player off the ice with you and/or one that sends a needed message and only if it sends the message.

  • Randy says:

RC has to leave the lines alone for more than 1/2 of a game. He says he is looking for chemistry and then doesn’t give any of the lines a chance to develop any.

On the PK, it’s good to see RC NOT putting the same two guys out there to kill 90 seconds of every penalty, no matter how penalties the Ducks take. At times the last couple of seasons, he’d use the same two penalty killers no matter how many times the Ducks went shorthanded.
