Quick hits from Wednesday’s practice

Some quick hits from Wednesday’s practice. …

Center Todd Marchant did not practice but said he is OK after he left Monday’s game after he was checked into the side wall.

Marchant said he has a sore back and hopefully will practice Thursday. The veteran said he had suffered some loss of balance from an earlier play in which he fell on a stick on Petteri Nokelainen’s goal and received stitches to close a cut behind an ear.

“All in all, I feel pretty good,” Marchant. “I should be OK.”

Center Ryan Carter returned to practice and skated on the third line after being held out with a bone bruise on his foot suffered one week ago. …

Jean-Sebastien Giguere did not practice. Coach Randy Carlyle said there was no update on the goaltender, who is resting a groin-muscle injury.

“Still the same,,” Carlyle said. “He’s in the gym working.”

The Ducks signed left wing Kyle Calder to a one-year contract and assigned him to Bakersfield of the East Coast Hockey League.

A veteran of 576 NHL games, Calder had played on a pro tryout agreement with the Ducks in training camp and was not released until Sept.26.

“He’s a veteran guy to come in and (he) didn’t really do anything flashy, but he knows his way around the rink,” Carlyle said.

The line rushes were as follows:

Joffrey Lupul-Ryan Getzlaf-Corey Perry

Bobby Ryan-Teemu Selanne-Saku Koivu

Ryan Carter-Petteri Nokelainen-Matt Beleskey

Mike Brown-George Parros-Erik Christensen-Evgeny Artyukhin

Very very happy to hear Carter is skating again.

  • Alisa says:

Is the expectation that Calder is only down in the ECHL for conditioning since he’s not currently in game shape?

Do the Ducks expect him to come up and be a 3rd line left winger, or a part-time second line left winger? Carlyle sounded a bit cryptic

Is the expectation that Carter will be ready to play on Friday?

  • Chaz says:

I think if Carter can play, he’ll be in the linup on Friday.

Luongo’s out with an injury so let’s take advantage.

  • Alisa says:

Let’s hope that since this year’s game is not on October 31st it’s not as wild and wacky as last year’s 13 round shootout game

    • ClippinWings says:

      Why?

even in a loss, that was the best non-playoff game i have been to in YEARS!!!!

      • Alisa says:

Ok, that’s true, it was highly entertaining.

I just didn’t like the loss! But at this point, that’s nothing new for this current team.

We do not expect any changes on our first and second lines, I guess.
Our third and fourth lines are constantly changing, it’s a mess. Our team doesn’t have a stable checking line, or grinding (energy line), because of all these continuous and endless changes. The whole last season Randy’s perpetual line swapping drove me insane.

  • Randy says:

The first two lines are constantly changing. We read what the lines have been at practice and there are comments on leaving the lines alone to try to build some chemistry.

That usually last about 1 period.

The only time RC has been successful with managing lines is in 07 when the lines pretty much took care of themselves.
