Quick - which two Ducks are tied for the team lead in game-winning goals?
Teemu Selanne? Yep.
Mike Brown? Yep.
Brown notched his second game-winner of the season in a rather dubious way Saturday because the Ducks nearly blew a 4-0 lead and held on to make Brown’s goal stand up.
But, hey, it still counts.
“I can’t remember the last time I had two goals,” Brown said when asked the last time he had two game-winners this early in the season.
Brown, who also had the game winner in a 7-2 victory against Vancouver, obviously plays a different role as a third-line winger. His main job is to disrupt the other team on the forecheck with his relentless pressure.
The more telling statistic Saturday was Brown’s game-high five hits, in just 11:22 minutes of ice time.
His highlight came in the third period when linemate Todd Marchant won a faceoff and the puck came to Brown, who wristed it past Ilya Bryzgalov for a 4-0 lead.
That makes four of his five career goals game winners.
“It’s definitely rare, but I’m glad to be a part of it and glad to contribute that way,” he said. “It’s not too much expected, but when it does happen, it’s a bonus.”
Decent player, but not a difference maker.
I would rather see Dustin Brown from LA Kings wearing Ducks uniform. This would be much more fun to watch Ducks games.
are you serious?
Dustin and Mike Brown are not even comparable.
Mike is a crazy bargain for what he brings to the table.
Remember, We claimed McIver off waivers, then traded him back to Vancouver for Brown.
I Like his tenacity, his forechecking. I always say, when you ferecheck, be on a collision course with the puck carrier. And he does exactly that.
When he adds some goals, it’s always handy, because it looks like we badly need some secondary scoring. But now, our fourth line has to find a new identity.
Where does this blog call Mike Brown a difference maker? Brown has a specific role on the team as a third/fourth line energy player who has been one of the few consistent and effective players on the team this year. Comparing Mike Brown to Dustin Brown, the Kings’ captain and former first round draft pick, is asinine.
I would hope you are happy D.Brown is the better player of the two since he was the #13 player drafted in 2003 (versus M.Brown at #159, 2004 fifth round) or else D.Brown would be a major bust and the Kings would have egg on their face.
In the real world, if D.Brown were a Duck instead of a King, that would probably mean Getzlaf (#19 player drafted) wouldn’t be a Duck. As a Ducks fan, I’m happy the Kings passed up Getzlaf to pick Brown instead. Are you saying you would rather have Brown instead of Getzlaf? If you are, then you are really showing your true trollish colors.
Hey Norm & Cliffie I’ve missed you guys. When you have a decent group of posters on a board, stupid really stands out, eh.
Mike Brown is what he is. To compare him to a budding Olympian proves the stupid pills are working.
mike brown is a great guy to have on the team. escially considering we only gave up McIver to get him. with his speed alone i’m suprised he doesn’t put up more numbers than he does, but with his style of play he doesn’t need to score to be effective but when he does it sure is nice.
Count me in as a Brown fan. He was a spare part at best in Vancouver, but he really stepped it up here in Anaheim. Entertaining lil guy.
I really like Mike Brown and this Ducks squad…anyday over D Brown. It was a great trade with Vancouver.
He works hard every shift and I see him getting better every game. Also his ice time is improving because of his hard work on the ice.
He is a perfect fit for our Ducks. Very glad he is here.
Keep up the great work, Mike…us true Duck Fans love you
Some angry and, seems to me, not very intelligent readers, especially someone like Backcheck throw a word “stupid” without even bothering to read my statement completly. I didn’t say we should have chosen Brown over Getzlaf four years ago; all what I said is that Dustin Brown would look good in the Ducks uniform, if somehow we could obtain him via trade. Indeed, he plays a hard-hitting hockey, very responsible defensivly and he is a prolific scorer on top of it. He could be a good fit for Anaheim Ducks. I know some Kings fans like Backcheck get upset about it and, as a result, we see some insulting runs at a forum that suppose to be a friendly discussion.
You want to make a trade for Dustin Brown? Be prepared to give up Perry or Ryan. Not worth it.
Mike Brown’s value on the team is more than it shows on paper. His intensity, grit and speed are a few of great things he brings to the team. It would cost too much for Dustin Brown and to be honest, we would would probably end up over payingfor him.
i’m so glad Brown is a Duck :D
especially since we got him for free. if i remember we picked up McIver from Vancouver on waiver and then traded him back to Vancouver for Brown. I can’t believe Browny had problem making the line up in Canucks. He is awesome! his energy is second to none! and he is giving 150% every shift. what else you can ask of a 3rd-4th line player… oh, and he scores some goals too. every time he’s on the ice you see him. he is standing out in a good way. he has also been standout on a PK.
Great job, Browny! keep it up!
He has been real good on the pk which is great for us, since we shipped Drew, who was always great on the pk to pick up r2, and if I ever see R2 on the pk Randy won’t need to worry about getting fired cause I’ll kill him.
We are definitely missing Drew on the PK.
If R2 was hitting more I’d probably be more OK with that.
Ryan Carter is filling the spot quite nicely though.
