Teemu Selanne scored the only goal in a shootout and goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere recorded his first victory this season as the Ducks defeated Calgary, 3-2, on Monday at Honda Center.
Selanne lifted a wrist shot past Calgary goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff in the third round. Giguere stopped all three attempts, including one on Curtis Glencross to seal the victory.
Giguere stopped 41 of 43 shots in regulation and overtime for his first victory since March 24. He had been 0-3-2 this season.
The Flames forced overtime with 18 seconds left in regulation when Jarome Iginla took a pass from Olli Jokinen and scored on a wrist shot after Calgary pulled Kiprusoff for an extra attacker.
The Ducks had a 2-1 lead after they scored twice in an 88-second span late in the second period.
Bobby Ryan put in Corey Perry’s rebound at 15:27 after Calgary’s Jamie Lundmark gave it away to Perry in front of the net. Ryan Getzlaf backhanded in a rebound off Ryan Whitney’s shot at 16:55.
Calgary went up, 1-0, in the first when Glencross broke in and beat Giguere on a wrist shot.
Perry assisted on Ryan’s goal to extend his points streak to 15 games, which tied the second-longest in club history and is two games shy of Selanne’s franchise-record 17-game streak.
The Ducks defeated the Flames at home for the 10th consecutive time and improved to 2-1 on a seven-game home stand.
FINALLY…nice job jiggy…Teemu as always..good defensive stand…not the best game..but overall on Canadian internet it sounded good to hear Jiggy stopped them again!…great victory..even in OT that last second (18 Second) goal hurt, but points are points….can’t wait for the next one…nice going DUCKS!!!!! High five and get to sleep for wednesday…..out
I was a screaming fool……internet hockey in real time is even worse than being there….next game I am back in Cali…go ducks!!
You could tell it was a big, personal victory for Jiggy. He played well all night, made some quality, vintage Giguere stops, controlled rebounds and kept calm. Just what we need from our $6,000,000 man.
Did anyone else see how high and enthusiastically he jumped at the end of the shootout? Haven’t seen him jump like that since game 5 of the Stanley Cup…
Hopefully this is one of those momentum and spiritually changing games that our guys need, and hopefully a building block to help build back Giguere’s confidence and play.
That was an awesome response from Jiggy. He played a great game and I am very happy for him. I am betting that Jiggy will be in net again on Wednesday, if RC is true to his word. You win and you are in.
I loved that jump in the air from Jiggy…You could see how happy he and the guys were for the win. I could not hear the interview after the game, the crowd was yelling too loud, but he sure looked happy.
CONGRATS DUCKS…CONGRATS JIGGY…
What a great win…we really needed that one! Calgay is a very good team and played well. Lundmark and Boynton traded giveaways, and the rest of the game was really hard fought by two teams who really wanted it! Giggy played great, and our big time players really came through. Loved the atmosphere in the building and especially during the shootout, as that is hockey at its best (at least in the regular season)!
