Huskins re-appears with San Jose

October 4th, 2009, 7:00 am by Curtis Zupke, Staff writer

Kent Huskins has been with San Jose since March, but Saturday was only his second game wearing the teal. huskins1

It was also his first game against his old team - in his former arena where he hoisted the Stanley Cup two years ago.

“It was a little strange in warm-ups and walking into the building,” Huskins said. “Once the game got started, it wasn’t anything different.”

Huskins seemingly disappeared after the Ducks traded him to San Jose in a March 4 deadline deal that also sent Travis Moen to the Sharks for prospects Nick Bonino, Timo Pielmeier and draft picks.

He was recovering from a broken bone in his foot at the time and never suited up for San Jose, watching his new team fall to his old team in the Western Conference quarterfinals.

Former Duck Huskins hoping to play for Sharks soon

April 17th, 2009, 7:00 am by Dan Wood, Staff writer

SAN JOSE — Former Ducks defenseman Kent Huskins, traded along with left wing Travis Moen to the San Jose Sharks in a March 4 deal for two highly regarded prospects, appears almost ready to return from a broken right foot.

If Huskins gets back in the lineup any time soon, it will be against the Ducks, who posted a 2-0 victory in the opening game of the clubs’ first-round Stanley Cup playoff series Thursday night at HP Pavilion

Huskins, hurt while playing for the Ducks during a Dec. 19 game against the Edmonton Oilers, has not played since the fracture was discovered after a Dec. 31 home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Former mates to sabotage Ducks?

April 15th, 2009, 3:40 pm by Dan Wood, Staff writer
SAN JOSE — Having obtained former Ducks left wing Travis Moen and injured defenseman Kent Huskins in a deal for two highly regarded prospects before the NHL’s March 4 trade deadline, the San Jose Sharks could have a notable advantage entering the clubs’ opening-round Stanley Cup playoff series that begins Thursday night at HP Pavilion.

Or could they?

“I changed everything when they left, so they’re feeding them all the wrong information,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said Wednesday in response to a question from a San Jose reporter.

Pressed as to whether Moen could provide Sharks coach Todd McLellan and his staff with information detrimental to the Ducks, Carlyle offered a somewhat more serious answer.

“He might,” Carlyle said. “Ask him. He’ll tell you what we like to do. I’m sure their coaches have used him as a source. That’s fine. We know that.”

Update on former Duck Kent Huskins

April 6th, 2009, 10:00 am by Curtis Zupke, Staff writer

The Ducks would have recognized the return of former defenseman Kent Huskins on Sunday.

The club usually does a video tribute for returning former players, especially ones that helped them win the Stanley Cup like Huskins did in 2007.

But Huskins (below, left) has not yet returned from an injured broken foot and did not accompany the Sharks to Anaheim.

San Jose coach Todd McLellan said that Huskins has worked hard over the past two weeks to get his skating and conditioning levels back and could return at some point. The Sharks have three games remaining in the regular season.

Ducks’ Pahlsson, Huskins not close to returning

February 18th, 2009, 12:50 pm by Dan Wood, Staff writer

The viral infection that has sidelined center Samuel Pahlsson all month and figures to keep him out of action at least two more weeks is mononucleosis, the Ducks confirmed Wednesday.

A medical exam performed Tuesday revealed that not enough improvement has taken place for Pahlsson to get back on the ice, Coach Randy Carlyle said.

The current plan calls for Pahlsson to undergo exams each Tuesday until he receives medical clearance to resume hockey-related activities. From there, it figures to take roughly a week for him to get enough ice time to consider a return to action.

Ducks’ Huskins undergoes surgery

January 23rd, 2009, 12:52 pm by Dan Wood, Staff writer

Defenseman Kent Huskins is expected to be sidelined an additional four to six weeks after undergoing surgery Friday morning to repair a fractured bone in his right foot, the Ducks announced.

Dr. Ken Jung performed the procedure at the Kerlan-Jobe Surgery Center in Los Angeles.

The Ducks had been hopeful that Huskins would return to the lineup shortly after this weekend’s NHL All-Star break, but medical personnel determined the bone was not healing properly on its own.

Ducks’ Huskins still iffy

December 27th, 2008, 11:53 am by Dan Wood, Staff writer
DALLAS — Ducks coach Randy Carlyle planned to have defenseman Kent Huskins take part in the pre-game skate and then decide whether he is recovered enough from a painful bruised foot to play Saturday night against the Dallas Stars.

Huskins, hurt Dec. 19 when he blocked a shot by Edmonton Oilers defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, looked much better toward the end of a Friday evening practice at American Airlines Center than he had at the beginning, Carlyle said. Progress continued during Saturday’s morning skate.

“It’s kind of borderline right now,” Huskins said. “It’s tough to gauge whether it’s game-ready.”

If Huskins misses a third consecutive game, the Ducks will again call on rookie Nathan McIver to fill the spot on the blue line.
